Description:
This hands-on, practical and fun workshop on implementing iPad apps teaches you to create a positive educational experience for young children with autism and special needs, who exhibit challenging behaviors. It provides an overview of behavior management principals for the busy educator, developmental prerequisite skills to consider when planning goals/lesson plans with the iPad and suggested strategies and tips to foster self-regulation, social skills (pragmatics) and language development using various iPad apps to teach specific skills. Attend this workshop to increase understanding of how developmental play stages affect a child's readiness to use the iPad, how to determine starting points for remediation using the iPad and how to more methodically, sequentially and developmentally purchase apps from the App Store in iTunes.

Description:
Play is important for the development of all children. This is also true for children with disabilities, but access to play may be limited by their disability or opportunity. This presentation will go into different aspects of play and the sequence of how toys are chosen for infants and toddlers. The presentation will start with choosing toys with Universal Design features that are commercially available and go all the way through specialized toys that are specifically for those with disabilities. Adapted play materials do not have to be expensive or complicated, and this presentation will teach parents, educators and service providers how to make play accessible to all. Handouts and hand-on experience will be given to all participants.
