Description:
Students who struggle with memory, processing, retention and executive skill issues require very specific kinds of accommodations, AT supports and teaching strategies. A good majority of these kids are served in the general education classroom and can be perplexing and challenging for teachers. School teams often struggle with placement issues for these students as they need extra support to learn in the general education classroom, but are often too high functioning for more restrictive settings. Consequently, the students are often lost somewhere in the middle without the assistance they desperately need to succeed. This session will focus on helping professionals identify the particular educational barriers that interfere with this population's access to the curriculum and offer specific ideas for compensating for neurologically-based deficits.

Learn how to make PDFs more accessible. This session will provide instruction and demonstration of best practices regarding the proper tagging of PDF files, including tips, techniques and guidelines. The presenters will offer solutions and workarounds to common tagging problems, including spacing issues, vanishing page content and the absence of character encoding. These techniques will improve PDF accessibility for a wide range of users. Hear the difference that a tagged PDF makes via a screen-reader demonstration.
