 Writer's Guidelines

Closing The Gap is a newspaper covering the ways assistive technology can be used to serve the needs of persons with disabilities. It covers all aspects of assistive technology as it relates to special education, rehabilitation and independent living for those who require the assistance of technology tools to pursue common goals and objectives.

The newspaper is published six times a year: April/May, June/July, August/September, October/November, December/January, and February/March. The deadline for publication is the 45 days preceding publication. For example, the deadline for the June/July issue would be April 15.

Our primary focus is on hardware, software, applications and procedures that are currently available for immediate use. Articles that address this technology in education, vocation, recreation, mobility and communication are especially solicited.

Submissions should be approximately 2,000 words. If commercial products are covered or described within the article, price of the product and complete contact information of the producer, including, name, address, phone, fax and Web address must be included. Photo submissions to accompany such articles are encouraged.

We request original, unpublished material. We do not publish pure research or "one of a kind" product descriptions. Our readers are interested in easily replicated procedures or commercially available products.

As a publisher we have become sensitive to and attentive to "PERSON-FIRST LANGUAGE". Whenever possible, we would ask that you refer to the person first followed by the disability, e.g., the child with autism, a boy with a disability vs. the autistic child, a disabled boy.

Any affiliation you have with any manufacturer, company or organization must be provided. Any consulting or public relations activity you may have relating to the content of the article is also required.
