Consideration of Assistive Technology Skills for Students with Disabilities Transitioning to Postsecondary Education – Two Block Session

Description

For students with disabilities a big factor in their successful transition from high school to postsecondary education is Assistive Technology. In fact, students surveyed identify AT as a critical component to their success. But how does AT transition with the student to their new environments? And what are the expectations involving AT that are required in postsecondary education? This session will address the importance of AT in postsecondary education and self-advocacy skills that aid in effective use of AT in postsecondary. The session will also highlight the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology in Postsecondary Education (QIAT-PS) project, specifically the free Student Self-Evaluation Matrix tool, designed to assist AT practitioners to support students in the development of essential self-advocacy skills.
