Description

Having an AAC device is only the start. How do we get individuals with complex communication needs to use their devices across environments, with a wide range of communication partners, and all the while using spontaneous and novel language? It all comes down to communication partners. This presentation will focus on developing competent communication partners in the school, community and home settings. Participants will learn to use a variety of simple, practical, research-based strategies in creative ways to encourage peers, teachers, support staff, parents and other professionals to become more proficient AAC device users. Implementation of whole class teaching activities and professional development ideas such as Yappy Hour will be covered.
