Overcoming Dyslexia

Dyslexia and dysgraphia are not diseases. Dyslexia and dysgraphia do not have any “cures”.

A person with dyslexia and dysgraphia suffers from reading and writing deficiencies. A person who has dyslexia finds reading much more difficult. He struggles to read certain words and is many times challenged with comprehending what he reads. A person with dysgraphia finds writing much more difficult. He writes with many spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes. Many times he needs to decide if not to write at all or to write something that he knows is full of mistakes and can be received negatively by those reading his text.

So, what does it mean to Overcome Dyslexia and Dysgraphia? It means to provide the tools and capabilities to alleviate the reading and/or writing difficulties.

For those with dyslexia, it means to provide the reader the tools so that if a word is difficult to read, that the person can easily ask that this word would be read out loud. If the reader still does not understand it, he/she can easily access the dictionary meaning of the word getting a better understanding of the word. In addition, many times people with reading difficulties, find it much easier to comprehend text that is read out loud to them. In those cases, these people should be able by a click of a button have the text read out loud to them.

Bottom line: Overcoming Dyslexia means to have all the tools available so that a person can read and write text easily and understand it.

For those with dysgraphia, it means to provide the writer the tools so that all his misspelled words, even the ones that are very difficult to decipher, are understood and corrected. That the corrections are offered as the text is written for maximum productivity, including grammar and punctuation corrections. That the text can be even predicted in order to speed up the writer’s typing.

Bottom line: Overcoming Dysgraphia means to have all the tools available so that a person can write text independently. People with dysgraphia should feel the confidence to answer an email or post a comment to Facebook without thinking twice or needing to ask anyone for help.

Word Prediction

Ghotit products offer a very advanced word-prediction technology known as Ghotit Quick Spell Word Prediction.

Ghotit Quick Spell Word Prediction helps people with dyslexia and dysgraphia to write text quickly and correctly. It is designed for writers with typing issues and phonetic-based misspellings. The technology successfully predicts intended words. Corrections are offered instantly with the first typed letters of each word, even when the spellings of the word’s first letters are incorrect

n the example above a user entered the text “Help us to andesa”. Despite the three spelling errors in the writing of the desired word “understand”, Ghotit is still able to predict correctly the word “understand”.

If upon your writing the set of predicted words yet to present the intended word, just continue writing: Ghotit will eventually understand you and predict the correct word.

Read-out-loud Words & Dictionary Meanings

The word prediction feature is equipped with reading aloud technology for each word and its meaning.

Ghotit Word-Prediction makes easy for a person with dyslexia to comprehend each prediction and select the correct one. By providing a talking dictionary (meanings, explanations for predicted words) a user is able to distinguish even between homophones words written differently but pronounced similarly (i.e. “to” or “two”).

Topics for Prediction (Word Banks)

Writing a text on a very specific subject sometimes requires a specific lexicon or special meanings for words used in specific subject domains.

To improve the quality of Word-Prediction, Ghotit implemented Topics. Known alternatives to Ghotit Topics are commonly called Word-Banks. Ghotit Topics are superior to Word-Banks since the Topics contain not only words but also adopt a writing style suitable for the topic. Even if a Topic does not add a single new word to the Ghotit Dictionary, the Topic will improve the Word-Prediction and suggest predictions more accurately based upon the selected topic and the context of your writing.
