A plethora of assistive technology options are now readily available to help students accomplish many tasks they might not otherwise be able to accomplish. AT professionals can help school-based teams make decisions, secure materials, and provide training and technical assistance needed to use AT. But what ensues when the AT specialists walk out the door? Once they leave, will AT magic happen? And if not, how can they help? This interactive session is designed to empower school-based AT professionals to support staff, students, and families in successful day-to-day implementation of anything from augmentative communication to literacy tools. Eighteen specific strategies will be provided to help decrease abandonment, increase utilization of AT, and create happier AT service providers. Workshop participants will actively engage in identifying barriers in their particular agencies, problem solving, and planning for improved implementation. Networking, collaboration, video, and practice with the strategies will be utilized throughout the workshop and participants will leave with resources to use immediately.
