Description:
In this session, participants will learn practical strategies to integrate play and communication into daily routines for young children with AAC and CVI needs. Led by Stefanie Olson, an SLP and AAC specialist, and Lynda Crouch, an OT and certified low vision specialist, the session will provide 10 actionable tips to support children as they learn to see and communicate. The presenters will highlight the importance of merging their expertise to foster holistic development. Attendees will gain insights into creating inclusive environments and will leave equipped with tools to empower children to thrive in their everyday lives.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify 10 practical strategies to integrate play and communication into daily routines for young children with AAC and CVI needs.
• Describe the role of play in the development of communication skills for children with visual impairments and complex communication needs.
• Implement effective techniques to support caregivers and educators in fostering an inclusive and engaging environment for children learning to see, communicate, and play.
