Description:
The expected writing process can feel restrictive. We are taught to plan and compose our writing in a linear path – introduction, body, and conclusion. For nonlinear thinkers, this sequence may be limiting, as their ideas don’t always flow in straight lines. Visual thinking techniques provide a method for nonlinear thinkers to express their ideas in a way that makes sense to them. Created digitally, nonlinear thinking can be easily converted into a coherent and organized writing structure. In this presentation we will show how Inspiration 11 provides a natural way for nonlinear thinkers to write successfully, harnessing their creativity.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Summarize why nonlinear thinkers may struggle with the expected writing process that is commonly taught.
• Identify one or more benefits of combining visual thinking techniques such as mind mapping, with writing strategies such as outlining, to help nonlinear thinkers to write successfully.
• Describe how Inspiration 11 can be used to support a learner at each stage of the writing process.
