Description:

The AFB’s Barriers to Digital Inclusion Series highlights persistent accessibility challenges faced by individuals who are blind, have low vision, or are deafblind when interacting with digital platforms. Through comprehensive surveys and real-time diary studies, the research uncovers the frequency and impact of digital barriers, emphasizing the need for inclusive design practices. This session will delve into the findings, offering actionable recommendations for stakeholders to enhance digital accessibility and inclusion.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe common digital accessibility barriers experienced by individuals who are blind, have low vision, or are deafblind, as identified through survey and diary study methodologies.

• Evaluate the impact of recurring digital access barriers on independence, task completion, and emotional well-being for people with visual disabilities.

• Apply research-informed recommendations to advocate for and implement more inclusive digital design practices in their own professional settings.
