Description:
Literacy is the cornerstone of academic success and autonomous communication for all learners, including those with complex needs. In this session, we will explore how educators can create inclusive literacy environments by engaging in school-wide implementation of Erickson and Koppenhaver’s Comprehensive Literacy strategies, developing family nights that bridge the home-school connection through literacy, and exploring how to successfully onboard new educators while supporting the growth of veteran staff.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Recommend three methods to onboard new and support veteran staff in an ongoing initiative.
• Describe three methods to provide parent and/or family training around literacy strategies.
• Identify three steps that can improve their literacy instruction in their own practice.
