Description:

In this session, participants will learn how to support students who use assistive technology as they transition from high school to post-secondary environments, including employment and university. The session will focus on creating individualized AT transition plans, assessing AT needs for various settings, and collaborating with universities, employers, and adult service agencies to ensure continuity of support. Attendees will explore practical tools and strategies for teaching self-advocacy skills and facilitating AT accommodations in adulthood. Through real-world case studies and examples, participants will leave with actionable insights to ensure students’ success and independence beyond high school.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Identify at least three considerations when evaluating if an assistive technology tool will work for a student post-graduation.

• Discuss at least three places students can get support for assistive technology tools after graduation.

• Compare and contrast the effectiveness at least five tools in the school and home/work environments.
