Description:

“It’s the things we play with and the people who help us play that make a great difference in our lives (Fred Rogers).” What does play look like for kids with complex speech and motor needs? How about leisure activities for teens and adults? While we know play and leisure activities are important, we often struggle to provide a wide variety of opportunities to individuals with disabilities. In this session, we will discuss different ways to incorporate play and related vocabulary. Join us for case studies and ideas to help you “make a great difference” in someone’s life. Let’s play!

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• List at least 3 benefits of play for all children.

• State at least 3 ways the play of children with disabilities may be limited.

• Develop a plan to implement play/recreation activities from at least 2 of the categories discussed in this session.
