Description:
Supporting individuals who use Speech Generating Devices (SGD) via telemedicine can be challenging and requires flexibility. When team members can’t access an individual’s vocabulary, coaching and collaboration can be hampered. In this session, we will explore the pros and cons of various SGD applications in virtual service provision. We will delve more deeply into CoughDrop AAC and Proloquo, which have apps that are free to download and allow users to log in on multiple devices. A case study will illustrate the benefits of this, and how it facilitates coaching and collaboration across disciplines. We will explore real-time changes to vocabulary, coaching team members, creation of training materials, and integration of token economies and visual schedules through cross discipline collaboration.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Explain why the ability to log in to an individual’s SGD remotely is beneficial.
• Demonstrate how to make real time changes remotely to an individual's CoughDrop AAC app.
• Identify and plan page sets that support an individual's needs beyond expressive communication, such as token economies and visual schedules.
