Description:

Discover how a strength-based mindset and assistive technology (AT) can unlock new possibilities for students with multiple and severe disabilities. This session follows the journey of a special education school principal in leading effective AT implementation schoolwide. Using the SETT framework (Student, Environment, Tasks, Tools), participants will learn how to create sustainable structures that support AT use throughout the day. The session will also cover strategies to build staff confidence, foster collaboration, and maintain momentum. Whether you’re starting or enhancing AT practices, you’ll leave with practical tools, real-world insights, and renewed inspiration to empower all learners through thoughtful integration of assistive technology.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Identify how mindset directly impacts students' access and use of assistive technology in schools.

• Describe three strategies and structures to support school teams in building their knowledge of assistive technology and applying it effectively with students with disabilities.

• Articulate the next steps in educating and motivating fellow educators on the power and use of assistive technology to improve student learning and autonomy.
