Description:

IFSP team members of early intervention children are required to consider AT when IFSPs are drafted or amended. Often AT is quickly disregarded or found to be unnecessary. As a result children and their families who would benefit from access to AT systems in furthering a child’s development go unrecognized. The goal of this course is focused on supporting early intervention IFSP team members in understanding how and when AT may support the child/family. The ideal outcome is a strength-based AT system that moves the child along the developmental continuum by compensating for deficits/ delays and also enhances access to the robust neuroplasticity of individuals in this age group which in turn allows the child to access all their many skills.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Identify the developmental domains that can be supported with the implementation of AT in the birth to three population.

• Discuss the importance of AT in the early intervention years and how AT supports a young child in reaching developmental milestones.

• Identify the components of an effective AT recommendation for children ages birth to three.
