Description:

This session explores how the new eye gaze user, faces and overcomes challenges, with the help and support of people that can integrate strategies for learning this new language. We will explore some myths and misconceptions about the ease of use and programming requirements to keep up with lessons in the classroom. We will provide accommodations and modifications that current students who use eye gaze have requested to allow for active participation and engagement during classroom lessons. These strategies are teacher friendly and will be able to be implemented upon returning to your classroom.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe an important strategy when determining a page set to implement with a user of eyegaze technology.

• Describe a barrier and solution to an eyegaze user being able to engage in required tasks during a lecture and actively participate in class discussions.

• Identify key math and reading tools built into devices that are able to be generalized beyond the classroom.
