Description:

This session explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can enhance learning and communication for individuals with complex bodies through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems. By integrating AI, educators and therapists can create personalized, engaging learning experiences that support Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, reduce cognitive load, and foster learner autonomy. Participants will learn how AI tools can adapt to individual needs, automate communication, provide real-time feedback, and offer multiple modes of engagement. The session will include practical demonstrations using Grid to develop interactive learning activities that promote independence and engagement. Attendees will gain actionable strategies to incorporate AI-powered tools into AAC systems, improving both communication and learning outcomes for students with complex bodies.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe two ways AI-powered tools increase motivation and/or decrease time and effort.

• Identify two AI-powered tools that support learning and communication needs.

• Discuss at least two factors required to complete a learning and/or communication activity using task analysis.
