Description:
Imagine playing mobile games and browsing the web using only facial expressions! Attendees will learn about two new assistive technologies on Chromebooks to support users with motor disabilities: Game Controls and Face control. These technologies run on a Chromebook with no additional hardware or software. Attendees will hear about the journey from enabling users to play Android games with a keyboard to allowing users to control a Chromebook with facial expressions and head movements. Attendees will learn how these assistive technologies were built, how to set them up, and the user research journey involved in improving Face control. Finally, attendees will see demonstrations of applications where Face control can help users with motor disabilities be more independent in using their laptops.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• As a result of this activity, participants will be able to identify different areas of motor disabilities and their influence on assistive technology.
• As a result of this activity, participants will be able to demonstrate how to set up two new assistive technologies, Face control and Game Controls, on a Chromebook.
• As a result of this activity, participants will be able to identify effective applications of Face control and Game Controls assistive technology in the real world.
