Description:
This interactive workshop will address critical communication gaps experienced by many children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families. The session will begin by exploring profound challenges of language deprivation and its impact on development. We will then transition to a live demonstration of the ASL Flurry platform, showcasing its features as an immediate and effective solution. The scope will cover practical, actionable steps for implementation in both educational and home settings. Participants will see concrete examples of the platform’s interactive video lessons, gamified learning modules, and family-centric progress dashboards. Attendees will receive several products, including sample implementation plans for educators and a “getting started” guide for families, designed to foster linguistic development, build powerful family connections, and support long-term academic success.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Explain the critical impact of language access on a child's cognitive and social-emotional development and articulate how technology can mitigate common barriers.
• Develop practical strategies for implementing a digital ASL learning tool to create and sustain a language-rich environment in both educational and family settings.
• Advocate for the inclusion of accessible technologies in IEPs and school-wide initiatives using data and evidence-based rationale.
