Experience

Ashleigh Hayward, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a PhD student in the department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at Vanderbilt University. She previously worked as an outpatient pediatric speech-language pathologist, primarily in healthcare settings in Northeast Wisconsin. Her research interests include language disorders, literacy development, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and increasing collaboration between the speech-language pathology field with other fields. She is interested in how children who use AAC develop literacy skills and move beyond basic communication of expressing wants and needs and move to communicating more complex ideas and thoughts. Future goals include expanding the AAC research for bilingual and multilingual children, including development of language and literacy skills.
