Kevin Sehlmeyer served as the Michigan State Fire Marshal from 2017 to 2025. Kevin has been involved in the fire service for 40 years. While the State Fire Marshal, Kevin created a state-wide community risk reduction collaboration effort known as “MI Prevention” to help make communities safer and reduce fire fatalities during his tenure. The fatal fire data collected by MI Prevention clearly showed that those experiencing a disability or individuals over the age of 60 are most at risk of dying in a residential fire. Kevin retired from the State Fire Marshal position in March 2025 and joined the Sonic Alert team to advocate, educate, and inform those most at risk of dying from fire about life saving advanced alerting systems.
