Description:
This poster session will examine how behavior-analytic training, including Behavioral Skills Training and In-Situ Training, will impact the implementation of assistive technology in group homes. The session will begin by outlining barriers that direct support professionals face when introducing assistive technology, such as training gaps and misconceptions about technology replacing skills. The presenter will then introduce structured training methods, highlighting how staff will receive instruction, modeling, rehearsal, and real-time feedback to increase competence and implementation fidelity. Pre- and post-training data will be presented to illustrate changes in staff confidence and technology adoption. Case studies will highlight successful applications, including the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices, smart home automation, and mobility supports. The session will conclude with practical recommendations for sustaining assistive technology implementation through ongoing reinforcement and performance-based coaching.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Explain how Behavioral Skills Training (BST) and In Situ Training (IST) supports staff in implementing assistive technology in group home settings.
• Identify three common barriers to assistive technology implementation in group homes and describe behavior-analytic strategies to address them.
• Interpret pre and post-training staff assessment data to determine the impact of BST and IST on assistive technology implementation and staff confidence.
