Description:
Many students with non-standard speech are clearly understood by a parent, paraprofessional, or familiar SLP, yet remain unintelligible to unfamiliar listeners and invisible to Siri, Alexa, and Dragon. This session will demonstrate how AT specialists and SLPs can close that gap for students with non-standard speech using Voiceitt, a voice recognition platform built specifically for consistent, non-standard speech patterns. Participants will learn a clinical candidacy framework, then walk through step-by-step implementation across three access points: the Voiceitt web application, the Chrome extension for classroom and assignment work, and Zoom/Teams/Webex integration for teletherapy and live participation. Case studies, quantitative data, and first-person student video will ground the session in real implementation outcomes, not theory.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify three clinical and behavioral characteristics that distinguish a student who is a strong candidate for Voiceitt from a student who would be better served by traditonal AAC.
• Demonstrate at least two methods for deploying Voiceitt within existing school technology infrastructure, including the Chrome extension for browser-based assignments and integration with one video conferencing platform (Zoom, Teams, or Webex).
• Construct an IEP goal statement that aligns a student's non-standard speech recognition technology use with a measurable academic or communication outcome.
Disclosures:
Dr. Levy is Customer Success Manager for Voiceitt and Co-Founder of The Babel Group, an authorized Voiceitt reseller. The Babel Group has a commercial distribution relationship with Voiceitt. This session will reference Voiceitt by name as the primary technology discussed and demonstrated. This disclosure is provided so attendees can weigh this relationship when evaluating the session content.
