Description:

How does technology transform from a technical aid into a lifelong voice? This session explores the latest advancements in IRISBOND eye-tracking and the Oskol 2 ecosystem through the power of storytelling. Using authentic user testimonies, we offer a glimpse into the real-life experiences of those using AAC as a gateway to empowerment, connection, and professional impact.

We will demonstrate how Speech Generating Devices (SGDs) on iPad accompany users through different life stages, focusing on the technical strategies, such as positioning and calibration, that ensure long-term autonomy. Participants will gain actionable insights into how tailored hardware and software configurations break barriers, proving that with the right “personalized bridge,” every user is truly “Free to Choose” their own narrative.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe at least three ways AAC can support self-expression and identity development for individuals with disabilities.

• Identify two barriers faced by AAC users in professional and creative industries, and strategies to address them.

• Reflect on the impact of authentic representation in media and literature for people with complex communication needs.
