Description:

You may have students using word prediction, but have they actually been taught how to use it before adding it to the IEP? We developed an easy yet systematic approach for teaching and implementing word prediction so students can use it effectively as a writing support. The session will include a step-by-step 1:1 lesson plan for introducing and integrating word prediction, and data collection strategies to measure effective use, and to compare writing tools. A group lesson for teaching word prediction to an entire class will also be shared. Attendees will leave with a ready-to-use word prediction implementation guide.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Participants will be able to utilize a scaffolded process for teaching word prediction to students.

• Participants will develop plans for integrating word prediction into everyday writing activities, increasing student independence, confidence, and writing efficiency.

• Participants will learn how to collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of word prediction for individual students and compare its impact with other writing supports.
