Description:

In today’s climate, more and more families are moving towards a self-directed adult service model for their adult child once they age out of the public school system. In this session, I’d like you to see firsthand how the presenter (and her son via video) created his self-direction programming model and utilized technology support. You will learn more about what a self-direction programming model is, how to utilize technology to create a robust person-centered plan and see examples of using both mainstream and assistive technologies to implement the goals and objectives of the ISP.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Define what a self-direction program is and describe the three pillars of transition planning.

• Identify at least 2 person-centered planning models and how to implement technology supports to complete them.

• Identify at least three assistive and/or mainstream technology recommendations related to vocational and/or independent living skills goals.
