Description:
Audio Description uses words that are succinct, vivid, and imaginative, to convey the visual image that is not fully accessible to a segment of the population—new estimates by the American Foundation for the Blind now put that number at over 31 million Americans alone who are blind or have difficulty seeing even with correction. The presentation will feature work with— – the fundamentals of audio description development and training, – the use of AI in the writing and voicing of audio description, and – using ones own smartphone to access audio description in a movie theater, at home, or in a performing arts space (e.g., Spectrum Access, Live Voice).
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify the four fundamentals of audio description.
• Demonstrate an awareness of pros and cons regarding the use of AI in the development of audio description.
• Identify digital/smartphone-based methods for the reception of audio description at home or in a movie theater.
