Description:
This session explores how to support executive functioning by aligning with how the brain naturally works—rather than trying to “fix” it. Participants will learn the emotional and cognitive benefits of working with the brain using assistive technology and strength-based strategies. The session will include demonstrations of tools that support organization, planning, and emotional regulation, and will equip educators with practical strategies they can implement immediately.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Compare and contrast the emotional outcomes of attempting to "fix" executive functioning challenges versus strategies that "work with" the brain's natural tendencies.
• Identify at least three assistive technology tools or strategies that support executive functioning through alignment with cognitive strengths.
• Analyze student profiles to determine which executive functioning supports are most appropriate based on individual needs and learning environments.
