Description:

A board-certified music therapist will present how music affects the brain, body, and human relationships. This information will in turn be used to form the foundation for musical experiences to promote social emotional development in children, youth, and young adults. Participants will witness assistive technology for music engagement. They will also participate in music experiences and then discuss the impact of the experience. Next, the group will investigate ways they can use music in their lives and environments to positively impact social emotional development in themselves and others.

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Distinguish one neurochemical released when participating in music.

• Identify two assistive technology tools for music engagement.

• List two ways to use music for social emotional development.
