Description:

In this interactive session, participants will explore creative and flexible approaches to visual supports for learners with autism. They will examine how visuals can be designed to support executive functioning, reduce anxiety, enhance communication, promote successful transitions, and encourage engagement. Concrete examples, such as interactive countdown strips, customized visuals, creative flip books, and other exciting tools will illustrate how evidence-based practices can be adapted for real-world use. Participants will be guided through selecting and adapting visuals based on student profiles and learning environments, ensuring tools are student-centered and effective. With hands-on opportunities to review and expand current strategies, attendees will leave with practical, adaptable visual support ideas that they can immediately implement across settings.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Design at least three innovative visual supports tailored to meet diverse learning and behavioral needs.

• Select parts of their daily routines that can benefit from the implementation of dynamic visual supports to promote independence and success.

• Apply strategies for increasing student engagement using creative visual supports.
