Description:
Virtual reality (VR) is a rapidly evolving technology that is increasingly being used by allied health professionals and educators to expand the reach of the skills that can be targeted in a therapy session or in school. In particular, specially designed Floreo VR lessons provide unique opportunities to teach important social communication skills (such as, participating in conversations), navigation of critical safety skills (such as, crossing a busy street), engagement in emotional regulation (such as, practicing a breathing routine in a crystal cave), etc. This session will describe the benefits unique to teaching skills through VR, safety considerations when using VR with students and clients, research that has been conducted on VR in therapy and education as well as practical applications of Floreo assisted teaching.

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Sescribe 3 benefits for using a VR in Speech and Language Therapy session
• Identify 3 areas in which therapeutic VR has been researched.
• Describe 3 pillars for ensuring a safe interactive VR environment for clients and students.
