Description:

Come learn how to spark engaging instruction!  This session will be practical! It is appropriate for anyone who interacts with individuals with significant disabilities and would like to create valuable engagement. Teachers, therapists, and parents alike will benefit from guidelines for adaptations and tips for differentiation. Resources will be shared on strategies for teaching lessons while building engagement. Examples will include modifications for students with vision impairments and the use of AAC.  Lessons will be modeled, along with the underlying rationale and principles of instruction and optimal engagement. Student case studies, videos and work samples will be shown throughout. Come learn how YOU can plug in and ignite meaningful engagement with each of your students.

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe at least 3 elements used to create an engaging classroom experience for students with significant disabilities.

• Identify at least 3 best practices for engagement.

• Describe 3 Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) to promote student engagement.
