Description:
Virtual reality (VR) is a rapidly evolving technology that provides unique opportunities to teach critical life skills in a safe, controllable, repeatable environment. Since 2016, Floreo has leveraged this technology to develop lessons for communication, social interaction, safety, emotional regulation, and other daily living skills. In this lecture, Floreo VR will be presented alongside the safety, feasibility, and efficacy research conducted on this tool since the beginning of the company. The session will further examine emerging evidence supporting the use of virtual reality as an instructional intervention. Floreo is currently being used in homes, schools, and clinics. For clinics, the CPT-3 (temporary) billing code for VR-assisted therapy will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• 1. Evaluate the potential benefits of immersive virtual reality interventions relative to traditional educational and therapeutic approaches.
• 2. Discuss the current evidence base supporting the use of virtual reality for social learning and communication skill development.
• 3. Describe the status of the CPT-3 billing code for "VR-assisted therapy" (0770T).
