Description:

Universal technology is most powerful when it is embedded into general education instruction rather than operating on the margins. This session shares real-world success stories demonstrating how assistive technology specialists can “sit with” general education—supporting lesson redesign, increasing access for students with disabilities, and strengthening collaboration between general and special educators.

Participants will explore before-and-after examples of classroom instruction following intentional coaching cycles. Using concrete lesson artifacts, educator reflections, and implementation data, presenters will demonstrate how low-tech and high-tech tools were integrated into core instruction to support learner variability without lowering expectations and maintaining legal requirements for assistive technology.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Participants will identify key components of an effective collaboration between assistive technology specialists and general educators in redesigning core instruction for learner variability.

• Participants will apply a lesson redesign framework that embeds technology tools into general education instruction while maintaining academic expectations and legal AT requirements.

• Participants will evaluate before-and-after classroom examples to recognize indicators of successful technology integration, including increased student access, educator collaboration, and alignment with IEP mandates.
