Description:

This session explores the closet of therapy approaches clinicians can pull off the shelf to mix and match a therapy outfit that fits the individual. Strategies, such as LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning), NLA (Natural Language Acquisition), sensory integration therapy and Brown’s Stages, are at clinician disposal, but often kept separated like seasonal fashion that can only be worn at certain times. Therapy can be so much richer and outcomes can be much more successful when there is a blend of therapeutic approaches. Participants will learn to critically evaluate client needs, mix-n-match strategies, and design individualized communication ensembles that empower every client to look their best.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Participants will be able to differentiate and identify 3 therapeutic approaches that could be used during AAC intervention.

• Participants will be able to analyze client profiles to determine individual needs and inform AAC vocabulary selections for their clients.

• Participants will apply clinical judgement to determine the best-suited therapy approaches that could be combined in therapy with their clients.
