Description:

This session will begin by describing challenges faced by people with limited or absent hand function when using traditional digital input methods and established alternative access technologies. Presenters will then introduce emerging wearable hands free device access solutions and will compare how these products capture user intent, differ in form factor, and support various access strategies. The session will focus in depth on Kinemo’s device access solutions, explaining how it enables hands free control of computers, mobile devices, AAC devices, and smart home devices through gesture based input commands. Three real world use cases will illustrate applications for communication, computer access, environmental control, entertainment, and productivity, with practical insights from users and clinicians.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Participants will be able to compare three emerging hands free wearable device access technologies, and analyze how each addresses limitations of traditional digital input methods for individuals with limited hand function.

• Participants will be able to identify four categories of digital devices that can be controlled with Kinemo solutions for device access, and differentiate the available hands free input modalities based on user abilities and access needs.

• Participants will be able to apply three use cases from actual Kinemo users and be provided with recommendations on how to adapt these use cases to the specific needs of their patients.
