Description:

This presentation will focus on current evidence that supports intervention using assistive technology with children diagnosed with cerebral palsy and other related neurological disorders. It will highlight the benefits of collaboration among interdisciplinary teams. A variety of durable medical equipment and commercially available products to promote mobility will be shared. Devices, materials used, and techniques for increasing communication using no tech to high tech will be presented. Information on the prevalence of CVI and methods to support children and families with visual deficits will be highlighted. The presentation will include methods for standardized evaluation. Frequently used techniques for motivating clients and families will be shared. Interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• After the presentation, learners will be able to identify 5 AAC strategies to increase expressive communication.

• After the presentation, learners will be able to identify 3 products for positioning patients for early power mobility.

• After the presentation, learners will be able to identify at least 1 standardized measure used by each SLPs, OTs, and PTs for use with young patients.
