Experience

Dr. McCombs has served St. Ambrose University in multiple roles over the past decade, including Program Director, Senior Lecturer, Outreach Coordinator, and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator. Her work spans classroom teaching, capstone mentoring, fieldwork education, and leadership of community-engaged initiatives such as Jim’s Place, an assistive technology house supporting innovative solutions for independent living. Dr. McCombs presents locally and nationally on topics including student stress in graduate OT education, nature-based learning, early childhood development, and innovative fieldwork models. She is actively engaged in research on sensory integration and playfulness in children and serves her community through involvement with several nonprofit and professional organizations.
