Experience

Cara Wilmot is the ELA STEM Trainer for the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind–National Technical Institute for the Deaf Regional STEM Center (NRSC @AIDB). She holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education & Elementary Education from Flagler College & a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of North Florida (UNF). She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from UNF as a Project SPIDERS scholar, sponsored by the Office of Special Education Programs, focusing on deaf education in rural districts. She has 28 years of experience in deaf education, specializing in reading interventions, STEM, transition, itinerant services, and specially designed instruction for d/Dhh students. She is licensed in Alabama and Florida. Cara is trained in multiple evidence-based programs for d/Dhh students, including Fairview Learning, Foundations for Literacy, Fingerspelling Our Way to Reading, Strategic and Interactive Writing Instruction, & Explicit Contextualized Vocabulary.
