Judith recieves honorariums for invited preserntations, and payment for contracted trainings from LessonPix. She also receives compensationfor the development of resources for the two grant projects at OCALI’s Center for the Young Child focused on early childhood assistive technology resources and supports, and adapted book supports and strategies for children. Volunteer positions include representing AOTA on the National Joint Committee (NJC) for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities, serving on the editorial board of the Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits (ATOB) Journal, co-chairing the newly formed Community of Practice for Assistive Technology in Occupational Therapy, and acting on the Board of Directors of AACcesible.
Experience
Judith Schoonover, MEd, OTR/L, ATP, FAOTA is an occupational therapist and former elementary school teacher. Judith has provided direct services in schools for more than 44 years and was a founding member of the Loudoun County Public Schools Assistive Technology Team. She has authored numerous articles and chapters and is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker presenting on the topics of school-based occupational therapy, transition, literacy, and assistive technology. Currently, Judith represents AOTA on the National Joint Committee (NJC) for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities, and serves on the editorial board of the Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits (ATOB) Journal. She co-chairs the newly formed Community of Practice for Assistive Technology in Occupational Therapy, and is on the Board of Directors of AACcesible. Judith was the recipient of the Joy Zabala Spirit Award in 2023 and 2026, and has served as a Joy Zabala Fellowship Mentor.
