Description:
This session will demonstrate how educators and service providers can leverage the Apple iPad ecosystem to support students with various learning needs. Participants will learn about tools that promote protecting teaching time using Apple Classroom to manage digital transitions and Apple Schoolwork to facilitate remote collaboration between the multi-disciplinary team. The presenter will showcase concrete examples of “chunking” multistep tasks using the iWork Suite to reduce cognitive load. Attendees will be exposed to examples highlighting increased student independence and task completion. By exploring built-in accessibility features, as well as app features, participants will gain practical strategies to empower persons with disabilities to practice skills independently and showcase their voices. This session provides a replicable framework for maintaining a focused, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment across the district. Participants will also have access to downloadable templates to replicate this work in their own District or classrooms.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Quantify the reduction in student transition time by utilizing various features within Apple Classroom.
• Construct a collaborative assignment in Apple Schoolwork that incorporates at least two multimedia supports (video/audio) for independent student practice.
• Execute a "chunking" strategy using an iWork app to break a complex multi-step academic task into an interactive sequence for students with disabilities.
