Description:

This session will begin by identifying common challenges in managing large volumes of inaccessible PDFs and video across educational settings. Participants will be introduced to a practical remediation workflow, including intake, prioritization, processing, and quality assurance. The presenters will demonstrate tools from the a11 Accessibility platform for PDF tagging, captioning, and audio description using real-world examples, highlighting both common errors and effective solutions. Participants will observe how automation and human review can be combined to improve efficiency while maintaining quality. The session will conclude with a comparison of manual, automated, and hybrid approaches and practical strategies for scaling accessibility efforts across classrooms, departments, districts, and institutions. This will include tips for batching content, assigning work, maintaining consistency, improving turnaround time, and reducing common accessibility errors.

Learning Outcomes:

• Outcome 2 (Application + implementation)
As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to apply at least two strategies to manage high-volume remediation across a school or district, including batching content and incorporating human-in-the-loop quality review.

• Outcome 3 (Evaluation + tradeoffs)
As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to compare and evaluate automation, manual, and hybrid remediation approaches based on efficiency, accuracy, and scalability for their specific environment.
