Description:

Research has shown that the use of multimedia is beneficial to all students. However, it is not always easy to find educational media with high-quality captions, audio description, and almost none have sign language. The Described and Captioned Media Program is a federally funded program that provides accessible educational media and much more. Learn about this free resource for students with disabilities. We’ll discuss how captioned, described, and signed media can enhance learning for all students in face-to-face and virtual classroom settings. Participants will see additional tools such as clip builder, lesson builder, ASL pop-up, and DCMP Create tool.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

• As a result of this activity, participants will be able to describe the benefits of accessible media for all students.

• As a result of this activity, participants will be able to discuss and evaluate the quality of captions and audio description.

• As a result of this activity, participants will be able to formulate strategies for incorporating accessible media into lesson plans.
