Experience

Alicia Alverson is a speech-language therapist, specializing in alternative access and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). She has spent time working broadly across education, home, and clinic settings, primarily with children who have complex bodies. Pulling from work in adapting general education curricula for students with complex bodies and modifying AAC vocabularies for people using auditory scanning, Alicia brings a holistic and person-centered approach to communication access. She is passionate about promoting agency, autonomy, and meaningful participation through assistive technology integration. Alicia is also a co-guardian for an individual who uses AAC, which informs her empathetic and advocacy-driven practice. Outside of and separate from her work at Smartbox, she operates a small private practice focused on empowering individuals with their AAC/AT systems and supporting their families.
