Description:

Join us for a fast paced session that will share practical resources for providing ethical solutions within your AT Practice. This presentation discusses the growing conversations around ethics in the assistive technology profession, with a focus on the practical application of ethics in action. The presentation will cover the Code of Ethics upheld by professionals in this field, including holding paramount the welfare of persons served, practicing only within one’s area of competence, maintaining confidentiality, disclosing conflicts of interest, complying with relevant laws and regulations, and acting in a manner that reflects positively on the profession. Additionally, the presentation will address accessibility as an ethical and human rights issue, and will include a discussion of common ethical situations and potential resolutions. Resources for practitioners will be shared.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will inspect code of ethics statements from professional organizations to draw conclusions about ethical practices in the AT profession.
Participants will identify and discuss at least 3 ways that ethical practices within the assistive technology profession should be implemented.
Participants will summarize at least 3 practices within the AT Profession which are key across all represented professions and identify resources for upholding them.
