Description:
Every State and Territory has a wonderful assistive technology resource that you may have never heard of! This session will introduce participants to the Assistive Technology (AT) Act and the core services offered by AT Act Programs such as device demonstration, device loan, reuse, and alternative financing. Attendees will explore how these programs support people with disabilities of all ages in accessing AT for education, employment, and aging in place. Participants will learn how AT Act Programs expand AT access and acquisition for those with disabilities, those aging into disability, and those who do not yet identify as disabled. The presenters will share real-life examples such as students using AAC devices, adults receiving refurbished screen readers for job access, and older adults utilizing smart home technology. Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify the four core services provided by state Assistive Technology Act Programs and their role in supporting individuals with disabilities across the lifespan. .
• Describe how state AT Act Programs implement innovative practices to increase access to assistive technology for education, employment, and aging in place.
• Apply knowledge of AT Act Programs to connect individuals with appropriate assistive technology tools, services, and resources within their communities
