Description:
This one-hour session explores how data can strengthen coaching for assistive technology (AT) implementation by building shared responsibility, educator buy-in, and more consistent classroom use. Too often, AT decisions rely on expert recommendations alone, while the evidence needed to guide implementation is overlooked. Participants will learn how to use practical, educator-friendly data to identify barriers, guide coaching conversations, and support collaborative problem solving. Drawing on examples from AT facilitation and coaching practice, the session highlights ways to collect, interpret, and discuss data that matter, including student engagement, participation, independence, and implementation patterns. Participants will leave with strategies for using data to shift AT support from compliance-driven consultation to a shared, capacity-building process that increases trust, ownership, and sustainable implementation across educational teams and classroom settings.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Participants will be able to identify meaningful data sources related to student engagement, access, independence, and implementation in order to guide assistive technology coaching conversations.
• Participants will be able to apply data-informed coaching strategies that build shared responsibility, increase educator buy-in, and strengthen sustainable assistive technology implementation across educational teams.
• Participants will be able to use data to facilitate collaborative problem solving and determine when to coach, when to consult, and how to adjust support to improve assistive technology implementation.
