Experience
Dr. Alexandra Da Fonte is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University, the Director of Professional Studies, and a Member of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. Her primary interests are in training school-based professionals on how to implement augmentative and alternative communication, bridging research-to-practice, and on supporting families of students with complex communication needs. Dr. Da Fonte has worked in various settings throughout her career, and these experiences have allowed her to apply this knowledge to her presentations and trainings at the state, national, and international level. Her interest in training school-based professionals has led her to serve as the principal investigator on federally-funded preparation grants, as a co-author of Effective augmentative and alternative communication practices: A handbook for school-based practitioners, and to support the field by serving on journals’ editorial boards.
