If you have been to a conference, read a research article or looked at a blog post recently, you know about the benefits of capacity building for AAC/AT. CapAACity building is where it’s AT, right!? But, trying to implement it can be hard. We have all experienced the difficulty with supporting AAC/AT use with our school teams. It is even more difficult when you add in how best to support administration and families.
Join us for a discussion and demonstration of how we are implementing a 3-year approach to build AAC/AT capacity with school teams, administration, and families. We will share what is working for us based on feedback from cooperative members, changes from pre/post-survey growth, and our own observation of capacity and participation building.
Jeanna Antrim, M.S. CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist, AAC Facilitator working for the Belleville Area Special Services Cooperative in southern Illinois. She continues to work with AAC and serving children ages 3-21 with severe to profound speech and language needs and a wide range of ability levels.
Maggie Judson, M.S. CCC-SLP, ATP is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Assistive Technology Professional working for the Belleville Area Special Services Cooperative in southern Illinois. She specializes in Augmentative and Alternative Communication in a public school setting, providing consultations, evaluations, and direct therapy to students ages 3-21, as well as implementing professional development activities.
